Tidiness
“the quality of having everything ordered and arranged in the right place”
I suspect my mother had something to do with this being today’s core value word. She always made sure everything in our house, including herself and us kids were neat and tidy. Everything had to be in its right place.
One day I came home from school to see all my clothes in a pile on my bedroom floor because she disapproved of how messy my clothes were in my dresser drawers. I look around my room right now and wonder how she would react to its lack of tidiness.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not happy about the areas of messiness around our house. I would love for everything to be “ordered and arranged in the right place” and yet some part of me resists. Part of the problem (and not an excuse)…we have more stuff than we have room. So if there isn’t room to put things away, we just put it in a pile.
Airing my “dirty laundry” to you right now is humbling. I’m not proud of the lack of tidiness…I’m sure the energy of our house is not thrilled about it either. I also understand that the outer world is a reflection of our inner world. So if I want to embrace tidiness, I need to start inside myself.
Just so you know, it is one of the four key issues (home) I’m processing through this year as part of the Mandala of the Month: “A Journey Into Joy”. It’s not too late for you to join in.
How about you? Is tidiness a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
