Thankfulness
“the feeling of being happy or grateful because of something or someone”
From a very early age I was taught to say “thank you” whenever someone gave me something, said something nice to me, or did something nice for me. I doubt I completely understood what it meant…it was more of a thing where: when “a” happens, you do “b”.
It has become such a habit with me that sometimes I catch myself saying it just out of politeness, without much thought or feeling behind it…like when someone holds a door open for me or our server has just brought the food I ordered or my husband has just come back from running an errand for me.
I’m realizing as I write this, how much more powerful would my thank yous be if I were more mindful about putting the energy of gratitude behind the words. It becomes an acknowledgment of the other person…as if to say “I see you”, “I appreciate you”, “I appreciate what you did”. All it takes is mere nanoseconds to be bring ourselves to the present moment to make that connection.
Yes, it’s much easier to come from a place of pure thankfulness for the big things, the big efforts. Today’s MotD is reminding us to also do it for the more mundane, day-to-day things…in actuality it may even more significant than the big things.
How about you? Is thankfulness a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
