Comfortable

“providing physical ease and relaxation”

As a whole, our society is on a never-ending quest for comfort. Most advertising is founded on us buying into their new way to be comfortable. But…what if we, as spiritual beings embodying this human experience, were not meant to be comfortable? Wait…what? What if being un-comfortable is the very reason for our existence here? Why? Because whenever we’re un-comfortable it usually motivates us to do something about it…it usually propels us forward…for our greater good.

That being said, let’s clarify something. If we’re getting ready to run a marathon, we would want to be sure that we’re wearing comfortable footwear and clothing…donning a long-sleeved velvet gown and stilettos would hardly be comfortable. Sleeping on a bed of nails (at least for most people) is hardly comfortable. Writing a novel with a quill on homemade parchment paper would be a lot less comfortable than using a computer with an ergonomic keyboard and chair.

The difference here is that one form of comfort keeps us stagnant…which is contrary to life in general on this planet…nothing on earth is stagnant…everything is changing…which is probably why we strive for comfort, to get a break from all the action. This doesn’t mean that we have to be going-going-going all the time…with free will we get to choose our forward movement. In fact, we can even choose to move at a comfortable pace. (see what I did there?)

The other form of comfort helps make it easier for us to do whatever we’re wanting to do…like wearing supportive, comfortable footwear for running races…or sleeping on a comfortable mattress in order to get a healthy night’s sleep…or using a comfortable computer set up to write our future #1 best seller.

We are encouraged to pay attention our state of being: are we playing it safe in our “comfort zone” or are we allowing ourselves to uncomfortable for a moment so that we can stretch our wings to fly? Can we find easier, more relaxing ways to achieve our goals and dreams…or would we rather have some form of obstacle make it more challenging for us to move forward? It’s our call to make.

How about you? Is being comfortable a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

joyfully,

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
