Peacefulness
“an inner sense of calm”
Oh to have that feeling, that inner sense of calm. For the most part, I’m in a perpetual state of hyper-vigilance…fight or flight mode: when I’m driving my car, when I’m out for a walk, when I’m doing yard work, when I’m preparing a meal, when I’m reading a book…it’s constant.
Even when I do my art? Yes, even then…which is counterintuitive…doing art, especially mandala art, is suppose to be calming…at least that’s what I tell others when I facilitate mandala coloring classes. Even right now as I’m writing this…my body is in a hyper-vigilant state. So I remind myself…breathe, loosen up my stomach muscles, slow down.
I know it’s just a life-long habit that I’m needing to undo. Actually, though, in order to stop a habit, it’s best to create a new habit to take over. Today’s MotD is reminding me to create a new habit. In a recent post, I wrote about Steve Guttenberg’s “getting to” versus “having to”.
It inspires me to come up with a mantra to help me attain that inner sense of calm: “I get to relax. I get to be calm”. Contrary to the environment that required me to be hyper-vigilant, this mantra reminds me that my present environment is such that peacefulness is attainable…I can now relax…I can now be calm.
How about you? Is peacefulness a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
