Interest

“the state of wanting to know or learn about something or someone.”

Why do we do what we do? Because on some level “it” was of interest to us. Sometimes that interest wanes, and sometimes is waxes. But in the beginning, our interest was piqued…we wanted to know more about it.

Today’s MotD is more about our conscious follow-through. When something grabs our attention do we take the time to recognize and discern the “attention” to be a distraction or an actual tug at something deeper within ourselves. Or are we on autopilot where we automatically talk ourselves out of it or blindly go along without knowing it’s a true interest or distraction.

How often does something capture our true interest only to have another thought immediately talk ourselves out of it? I know it happens to me a lot. I usually hear my father’s voice say “oh…you don’t want to do that”… then I automatically go along with it and talk myself out of whatever “that” was.

We’re encouraged to 1) pay attention to what grabs our attention, 2) consciously decide whether it’s a truly something you want to know more about or a distraction, and 3) if it’s a true interest, follow-through with it in some way…even just writing it done what it is or noting it digitally, helps lock it into form.

I first became interested in mandalas in 1998 when I opened a new-to-me mandala coloring book while in a new age bookstore. When I saw them, it about took my breath away. I akin my reaction to that scene with Olympia Dukakis and her “aha” moment in one of my all-time favorite movies, “Moonstruck” (skip to the 1:04 minute mark)

”That’s It!”

Consciously follow through on those “aha” moments.

How about you? Is interest a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
