Potential

“having the capacity to become or develop into something more”

The number one killer of potential is……fear. Whether it’s our fear…(”what if I fail” or “what if no one likes what I do/say/make” or “what if I lose everything in the process”) …or… other people’s fear for us…(“what if something bad happens to you” or “what if you get hurt” or “what if you’re not good enough” and so on). My dad had this habit of saying to us whenever we talked about something exciting we wanted to do: “oh, you don’t want to do that”…which would immediately put a halt to everything right then and there. Thankfully in later years, I learned how to respond to his neigh saying.

Probably the saddest thing to hear is someone saying “they had so much potential” implying that they let something get in the way of achieving great things, that they weren’t able to do something more with their lives. That being said, who are we to judge? Maybe they did exactly what they intended and were perfectly content to stop right there.

So…what do we do about our potential? Do we have the capacity to become something more? If so, what would that be? I know for me, I can see where I could go in a variety of directions. And it almost doesn’t matter which way I go because as long as I continue to grow and do what I love to do, is there a wrong direction? This I do know…staying put is not an option for me.

How about you? Is potential a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
