Self-Respect

“knowing, understanding, and honoring your own needs”

What does it mean to have self-respect? Obviously it’s going to be different for everyone however there are some key components that apply across the board: liking yourself, loving yourself, and knowing yourself.

Who are we without our filters, fears, and limiting beliefs? That’s what we’re encouraged to find out. Who we are at our core is demanding of us to honor and uplift that part of ourselves. Yes, I know…it’s a big ask. And yet, without doing that we limit our access to our full potential.

Of course the next question is: how do we go about doing that? Well, thankfully, it’s a life-long journey that’s meant to be enlightening, joyful, and expansive. I know…all I sense is dread, overwhelm, and the desire to hide while eating a gallon of Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food…(yes, I know it only comes in pints…so I’ll need to have four of them).

The imagery that popped into my head as I wrote the “enlightening, joyful, and expansive” part, was of someone opening a large, beautifully wrapped gift. This someone was carefully and deliberately unwrapping it so as not to rip or ruin the paper. The gleeful anticipation on this person’s face made it a joy to watch and eager to find out what was in the box. That, my friends, is the way we approach our journey of self-discovery: with gleeful anticipation and wonder.

How about you? Is self-respect a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

joyfully,

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
