Intrigued
“having one’s interest, desire, or curiosity strongly aroused”
I LOVE this word! Whenever my interest is piqued, I often hear myself saying: “hm…I’m intrigued”. I probably get this way because of my childhood obsession with Sherlock Holmes. It also contains in its definition one of my core value words: curiosity. Being intrigued is usually my first clue that I must follow this thread out of pure curiosity.
When I first discovered (for myself) the world of mandalas, I devoured everything I could to learn more about them. I must have at least 20 books about them. Now 25 years later, they still intrigue me…and inspire me to wonder what comes next. Other things in my life have intrigued me but had shorter lifespans: hair permanents, bell bottom jeans, Nancy Drew, gothic mystery romance novels, the original Dark Shadows (google it), and so on.
We are encouraged to pay attention to what intrigues us. Check in with it. Is this something we truly want to pursue or is this a breadcrumb leading us someplace we wouldn’t have through to go if it hadn’t been for that initial sense of intrigue? Is it something that will be short lived or long term? Or is it symbolic of something else that’s wanting to get our attention?
I often tell people who struggle figuring out their purpose to pay attention to what makes their heart sing. With today’s word, it gives me another idea to use if the idea of “heart sing” is too vague. We can also pay attention to what makes our eyes literally pop open wider…that’s another clue that lets us know we’re “intrigued”…because it usually means we want to take a closer look.
How about you? Is intrigued a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
