Affection

“a feeling of liking and caring for someone or something”

Let’s focus on the caring of “something” for today. That “something” could be something we do, something we make, or something we have. If we’re going to spend time doing or making something, it behoove us to at least care about it. If not, then why are we doing it? Of course if we’re doing it FOR someone we care about, that motivation may help ease the lack of liking or caring about it.

For now, though, let’s focus on the “something” we’re doing or making because we chose to do or we have to do it. If it’s a case where we have a job that we don’t like or care about but the alternatives are even worse, then we are encouraged to modify our mindset in some way…since that’s probably the only thing we have any control over. This is where I look for ways to turn the job into a silly game.

For instance, if your job has repeated tasks, keep track of how long it takes each time. Is there a way to speed it up, slow it down, or even change it up? Are there certain days where it goes faster/slower? What patterns do you notice?

Also, you could start noticing the quirky things the other people do that could be counted. It could be a word they use repeatedly (like “like”), clicking their pen, tapping their fingers, and so on. Count how many times throughout the day they do it. Maybe even keep track of it to see if there’s a pattern or certain times where it happens more or less. It’s a great opportunity to use your creativity!

Now, if the “something” is something we have and we don’t like it or care about it…why do we still have it? Great question! Is it because it was a gift from someone we care about? Is it a souvenir that didn’t exactly age well but we like the memory it invokes? Here’s another opportunity to ignite our creativity. What can we do with it or how can we alter it to make it more likable? Or…maybe even better, are we willing to part with it?

Essentially, today’s MotD is encouraging us to be mindful of what we have and do so we can make note of whether we at least like it and/or care about it…and then take whatever action we deem necessary.

How about you? Is affection a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
