Idealism
“the cherishing or pursuit of noble principles, purposes, and/or priorities”
Over the last couple of days, we’ve been experiencing the most ideal fall weather here in Oregon. Sadly, other parts of our country have been experiencing the most dreadful and deadly weather…hardly ideal.***
This brings to mind some of the lyrics to “Camelot” regarding their weather:
A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot
And there’s a legal limit to the snow here
In CamelotThe winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot
By order, summer lingers through September
In Camelot
In some regards, “idealism” is similar to “perfection”…hardly attainable and who is it that gets to determine what’s “ideal” and what’s “perfect”? With regard to weather (as an example)…my body detests hot weather and yet I know some people who LOVE it…and some of them also like humidity to go with it! That’s why we live now live in Oregon and not Florida anymore.
We’re encouraged, instead, to focus on “the pursuit of noble and lofty principles”. Just as striving for excellence serves us better than trying to be “perfect”. But here too, we have to take into consideration, who’s determining the standard of these principles, who’s determining what’s excellent?
That my friends is where communication, listening, negotiation, and compromise are key to establishing said principles/standards. In an ideal world, these approaches would serve us far better than any war or battle…and in an ideal world, we would be doing all we could to help stabilize our planet’s health and thus its weather.

How about you? Is idealism a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
