Amiability
“the quality of being friendly and pleasant”
This word is similar to others value words that have been posted or will be posted later this year that reference the idea of “being friendly”. It’s the added word of “pleasant” that helps differentiate today’s word from the others.
What does it mean to be pleasant? You might say “being agreeable”…close however that has the potential to border on codependency…which would mean we’d have to sacrifice our soul a bit in order to be considered amiable.
Being pleasant means being able to maintain a sense of calm, confidence, and civility regardless of what’s happening around us. Being pleasant means knowing when to be silent and when to speak up…and when we do speak up, it’s short, sweet, and succinct without the intent of wanting to make a strong point without causing harm to anyone. Being pleasant is also about being genuinely respectful even when others are not reciprocating…because their disrespect is more about them than about us.
Being pleasant is also an inside job…meaning that we understand the “honey vs vinegar” adage. From that perspective we can assess any situation and know exactly how to diffuse the “un”pleasantries…by coming from a place of sincerely wanting to keep things calm and civil…which is a higher vibrational state than the alternative.
How about you? Is amiability a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

joyfully,
