Benevolence
“being kind and generous”
This is another of those words where we are often encouraged to show it to others but we forget to do so for ourselves. So again we’re being reminded that, while yes we need to be kind and generous to others, we MUST be kinder and more generous with/to ourselves.
For example, I’m needing to be “kind and generous” to myself because I messed up the spelling of “benevolence” on today’s MotD…I had ended it with “ance” rather than “ence”. I went back over it to fix it and to me it’s very noticeable. Chances are you probably wouldn’t have noticed had I not told you.
Usually I would be tough on myself for making this kind of mistake…spelling errors trigger me…probably because of my Catholic school education…those nuns could be quite tough with us…with their rulers and guilt-inducing stares.
I don’t know if this applies to you or not but for me, being hard on myself is just a continuation of childhood. That I “beat” myself up before anyone else does or I do it because there aren’t any authority figures around to do it anymore, so it’s up to me to continue that behavior. How f’ed up is that???
Anyway, I’m doing my best to console myself right now. Considering this is only the second time in 281 mandalas that I’ve messed up the spelling…I’m doing okay. Yes, I could do better and next time I will…but for now…it’s okay. In the big scheme things, this is barely a blip.
The bottom line: be kind and generous with/to yourself.
How about you? Is benevolence a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
