Being Folksy

“being friendly and informal in behavior”

This is one of those values where if it lacks ANY sincerity, it will just come across as phony and creepy. In movies, if any of the characters seem friendly and smiley and yet their eyes aren’t smiling…you just know that they are the creepy villains in the story.

Ok…let’s change this up a bit. “Being informal” feels like the operative phrase that gives off the folksy vibe. Being around folksy people makes it easier to relax and be more open around them…like a safe harbor. And when we’re the ones being truly folksy, others feel more comfortable and open around us…they can loosen their ties, relax the shoulders, and ease up on the jaw tightening.

When we create this folksy environment or are invited into it, it allows us to make stronger connections with people, to let our hair down, to share our stories without fear of judgment…it’s a more welcoming space that creates a sense of belonging. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?

How about you? Is being folksy a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …
