Wonder

“the desire to be curious to know or to ponder something”

Ponder is my favorite word—to use and especially to say. Curiosity is one of my two core value words. So it goes without saying that the word “wonder” is one of my top ten favorite words.

With today’s MotD we are strongly encouraged to be “curious” about EVERYTHING! Often with my art, I’ll catch myself saying something like “I wonder what would happen if mix this medium with that one”, or “I wonder how that would look painted on wood”, or “I wonder how it would look to put this on top of that”. And the important thing is…I don’t just wonder, I follow through on it…test it out…play with it. (Play is my other core value word)

What I love about the word “wonder” is its implication of open-mindedness…that all options are on the table to explore and ponder. It definitely has a child-like curiosity about it. It assumes we just became aware of something we didn’t know about before and now we want to know more about it. And because of that we’re more open to any and all possibilities.

Since wonder is also a noun, we’re encouraged to embrace a sense of wonder and awe about the world around us and beyond. I mean seriously, don’t you just wonder about how all of “this”—our life, this planet, this universe, and so on—came to be and all that has yet to be made known? I do…all the time. It’s fun…you should try it…it does require a nap afterwards.

How about you? Is wonder a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
