Accomplishment
“something achieved after a lot of work or effort”
Our western culture is all about doing and accomplishing things. We seem to care more about doing than being. I know for me, I feel much better about myself and my day when I’ve gotten a lot accomplished. I even have a daily to-do list where I happily check off tasks as I complete them. There’s nothing wrong with any of this as long as there’s a healthy balance of just being…which is where I find myself lacking.
Some of that comes from growing up feeling like we (me and my siblings) had no value unless we accomplished something…otherwise we were just being lazy. Thus the premise behind my to-do lists. Old habits die hard.
I feel like I require a mindset change where my self-worth is not tied into how much I can get done in a day or how much money I can make or anything else that is outside of me and/or my control. Instead my self-worth needs to just be…any accomplishments I achieve should be like icing on a cake…a bonus.
That being said, what accomplishments can truly do for us is help build on our self-confidence. As we see ourselves achieving our goals, big or small, we see that “yes, we can do this” which fuels our desire to achieve even more. There’s something to be said about that “crossing the finish line” moment when we accomplished what we set out to do. It’s at this point where we need to allow ourselves the time to celebrate and just BE with what we just did, to bask in the glory that is well deserved.
Tomorrow we can start on the next thing on our list.
How about you? Is accomplishment a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
