“to be happy and relaxed”

With what’s going on in the world today, I think we could all use some happiness and relaxation…no worries, going about our day in a la-tee-dah kind of way. Actually, I think that’s the essence of what Winnie the Pooh is all about. He’s my favorite character of the Hundred Acre Wood (HAW) family.

I’ve been a fan of his and his friends most of my adult life; I even watched their cartoons…as an adult. IMHO Sterling Holloway’s voice captured the heart and soul of Winnie the best of all the actors who did him. He making Winnie that much more endearing to me.

I became even a bigger fan of the HAW gang when I read “The Tao of Pooh” by Benjamin Hoff. In it Hoff explores Taoist philosophy through the lens of Winnie the Pooh, using his simple, unpretentious nature to illustrate the principles of wu wei (effortless action), living in harmony with oneself, and embracing life’s flow. It also explores many of the other HAW characters as well.

For me, Winnie is the epitome of being carefree. Rather than being burdened with worry…he instead responds to life with a simple, open-hearted acceptance that lets things flow naturally. Rather than get upset, his usual response to something working out differently than he expected was to say “Oh Bother”. A phrase I’ve also adopted.

Pooh’s lighthearted approach reminds us that being carefree isn’t about ignoring responsibilities but about approaching life with a sense of ease and openness, allowing events to unfold without forcing or resisting them.

Yes…let’s have some more of that, please and thank you.

How about you? Is carefree a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
