Intuition

“the ability to recognize the truth in any given situation”

In our day-to-day lives, what does intuition look like? It’s that inner knowing that you feel like you forgot something as you’re walking out the door…only to discover later that you forgot your wallet. It’s that inner knowing that makes you feel like you need to bring your umbrella even though it’s sunny outside…later you’re glad you paid attention. It’s that inner knowing that something feels off with someone you just met…later you find out something that confirms that feeling.

In all these examples, and in most cases, intuition shows up as a feeling or an inner sense about something or someone. Because our society tends to honor thinking/logic (brain) more so than feelings (heart), our intuition may suffer from lack of use.

But all is not lost. We have the ability to develop our intuition. For me, I rely on two methods: 1) using my body as a pendulum, and 2) paying attention to the sensations in my body. Notice how both use the body in some form.

We think of our bodies as just vehicles to help us get from one place to another…but they are so much more. Many of the features that come with our body go unused…usually because we are unaware of them, the key one being that our bodies are detectors of truth…they know it when they feel it.

About 20 years ago a friend taught me how to use my body as a pendulum. Standing in her kitchen, I asked my body to show me a “yes”. My body, on its own, started gently moving backward and forward. I asked my body to show me a “no” and that I wanted it to be completely different from a “yes”. My body started gently moving left to right. From there it was just a matter of learning how to ask it “yes” or “no” questions.

Check out this site regarding “how to ask questions of a pendulum”. Actually, I wound up learning a few things I didn’t know…so I’m glad I listened to my intuition that pushed me to google this question while I was writing this post.

As for the body sensations, I generally feel a buzzing sensation or goosebumps whenever I hear the truth. For instance if someone tells me they’re about to do something and I get goosebumps, I know that whatever that is in alignment with their truth. Also if I feel my body uplifted in the upper chest area, I take that as a positive, or a “yes”. If my body feels scrunched in or heavy in my upper chest or stomach area, I take that as a negative, or “no”.

Since everyone potentially feels or senses things differently, it would be best for each of us to play around with our intuition. One caveat…sometimes it may seem like we got it wrong but in reality we just mis-interpreted it, our question was off, or a different result was intended than what was expected.

For instance, one day while driving I got this feeling that I had to stop at this one shop that was on my way. So I stopped, went into the shop, walked around but nothing seemed to be getting my attention. When I checked in with my body a few minutes later, I got that it was okay to leave. Who knows what that stop meant…except that for some reason I needed to be delayed from my intended destination.

Another way to play with your intuition is to view my “Intuition Tuesday” and “Intuition Friday” videos on my YouTube channel. On both days, I pull three cards to receive messages for that day. I show the backs of them to let you pick which one feels like the “one”, and then I reveal each of the cards. At the very least it’s fun to play.

How about you? Is intuition a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
