Interdependence
“the idea that everything is connected to and depends on every other thing”
We take some much of our day-to-day lives for granted…never realizing how much is reliant on our interdependence.
For instance, if we want to grocery shopping…well, we need a grocery store…someone else had to create that, which involved all kinds of construction people, equipment and supplies…all provided by other companies and their people. How about water, wastewater, and electricity…that has to come from someplace and be maintained and managed by other people.
Then there’s stocking the store…where did all of that stuff come from, who produced and/or packaged them, and how did it all get there? The store then had to employ people to do the stocking, the selling, the maintenance, and so.
And how do we get there? If we’re driving, then someone created a company that puts together your car and hired all the people that are directly and indirectly involved…who also purchased all the car parts that came other companies that were started by other people who employed other people to make, sell, package, and ship the parts.
For gas cars…gas stations and their people need to exist to provide the gasoline…and where did the gasoline come from? That’s a whole other industry of companies and their people. For electric cars…well, you need electricity. Where does that come from and how does it get from its source all the way into your car? More companies and their people.
If we’re going to drive, we need a roadway. So someone was in charge of making that happen…they employed the appropriate people and purchased all the necessary equipment and supplies…which btw…came from other companies that other people created and hired people to make, sell, package, and ship those products.
Whew!
This is just one “simple” example. We may think that “I’m going to the grocery store” as a one person activity…but without all of this aforementioned people and stuff being in place, we’re not going anywhere.
Today we’re encouraged (and everyday) to appreciate that while we may think we’re in our own little world…we are actually very much interconnected throughout the entire planet.
In essence, we all need each other in some way, shape, or form. Let’s be grateful and kind to one another.
How about you? Is interdependence a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
