Endurance

“the ability to keep doing something difficult, unpleasant, or painful for an extended period”

When I randomly picked this word for today, I wondered what I was going to write about. Since I had a guy coming over to help me put down yard cloth for my labyrinth today, I held off writing until after we were done. And technically, it’s going to be a spiral.

For THREE hours we labored with putting down two layers of cloth. Its 32’ in diameter circular shape made it challenging along with the fact that we had to work around three mid-sized trees, four rose bushes, five lavender plants, the three short tree stumps, and a partridge in a pear tree…sorry I couldn’t resist.

Two hours into it I began to understand today’s word first hand. If it was up to me I would have stopped right then, but the guy really wanted to get it done today. So I put on my big-girl mindset pants, drank a bunch of fluids (non-alcohol), and soldiered on.

The whole time I’m thinking: this is difficult, this is unpleasant, and this is painful…I don’t do this kind of thing on a regular basis, so my body was really feeling the strain.

Sitting here now, recovering, I’m so glad we hung in there and did all that we could get done for today…we would have finished but we ran out of yard cloth for the last section. I’ll get another role tomorrow…oh and more staples. I bought a box of 100 staples think that would be plenty however, we ran out halfway through the project. So we started using bricks to hold the cloth down…it took me at least 4 wheelbarrow trips to bring over all that we needed.

It may seem like a silly thing but I find myself looking out the window and admiring our efforts. While my body feels all achy and tired, my soul-self feels elated that we endured the task…that, yes, it was worth it.

How about you? Is endurance a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
