Accountability
“an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions”
I don’t know about you, but I seem to accomplish more when I have an accountability buddy…someone who helps me stay on track as I help them do the same. At the moment, I’m having to be my own accountability buddy…which is my daily task list in my mini-notebook…it makes for shorter to-do lists.
Of late there seems to be an outcry for more accountability everywhere bc there seems to be a severe lack of accepting responsibility on all levels of our society. If I had to guess, I’d say it all stems from our childhood fear of getting into trouble for doing something “wrong”. We’ve made being wrong such an awful thing, that no one wants own up to anything…thus a total lack of accountability
Of course, this all leads back to each of us individually…and the concept of “the outer world being a reflection of the inner”. If we want more accountability from everything/everyone else, then we must take a look at our own accountability. Are we ready, willing, and able to accept full responsibility for our actions?
For instance, if we’re blaming the fast-food industry for contributing to our overweight-ness…we have to look at it from both sides: while they may be responsible for what they put in their “food”…we are responsible for what we put in our mouths.
Essentially, we’re being asked to properly assess our level of responsibility with our actions. If we find ourselves retorting with something like “well, he/she/they made me…”, that gives us a clue right there that we’re not being accountable. We’re throwing the blame someplace else. We’re being reminded that even in the most extreme of conditions, we ultimately make our own decisions and thus have to own up to them.
How about you? Is accountability a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
