Curiosity
“a desire to know”
Earlier today I watched an episode from the current season of Queer Eye. In the middle of it Antoni Porowski said “When you lean into the curiosity of newness, it’s such a more exciting place to live in.” Something in me told me “you should write that down”. So I rewound it and grabbed it word for word. The funny thing is…I had yet to pull today’s core value word. So imagine my delight when I later picked the word “curiosity”. How fortuitous.
”Curiosity” is most definitely one of my core value words…it and “play”. For the longest time I thought everything I did had to do with being creative. But I’ve come to realize that I’m more motivated by curiosity than anything else…and out of my curiosity comes my creativity.
For me it’s all about “what if”. What if I mixed this color with this medium? What if I “burned” a mandala design into wood and then painted it? What if I painted mandalas on stones? And so on.
I’ve been prepping for the 2025 Mandalas of the Day while also working on the Archangel Mandalas. I had the thought…what if I combined the two…meaning, what if I create the Archangel Mandala #4 by cutting a 4’x4’ piece of watercolor paper into 365 pieces, paint each piece separately, and then glue them onto a wood panel…one piece at a time, one “mandala of the day” at a time.
After some brainstorming and testing, I came up with the idea of cutting the “pieces” into puzzle pieces. So beginning January 1, I’ll randomly choose a puzzle piece, add some watercolor paint, and then temporarily place it on the wood panel. I have no idea if this is going to work the way I envision it and yet my curiosity has be intrigued and excited to start playing with it.
With today’s MotD, we’re encouraged to play with “what if’s” in all that we do, to fire up our curiosity and our creativity…because that’s where the solutions are for today’s problems.
How about you? Is curiosity a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
