Excellence

“the quality of being outstanding”

Years ago as a patient of a wholistic chiropractor, I shared with him my high stress levels with my county government job. Somehow the word perfect came up in the discussion, to which he responded:

The problem with perfection is…who decides when something is perfect? Even if we ourselves determine perfection, we will probably question it and thus make changes in an unending quest for “making it perfect”.

The truth is: as spiritual beings, we are already perfect…so there’s nothing that needs to done. As humans, we are imperfect. Even if some aspect of ourselves (or what we do) appears “perfect”, some other part is not…thus being perfect is UNattainable. So forget about seeking perfection, instead, strive for excellence…it’s forever attainable.

His advice changed everything for me. Later that year at a national convention for county governments, our county’s web site (which I developed) won third place in our category. The award was called “The Award of Excellence”…to me, that was PERFECT!

With today’s MotD we’re encouraged to strive for excellence…a quest to continually improve upon that which we have already achieved.

How about you? Is excellence a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
