MotD 24-364 Status — after. textured abstract background with a big blob of yellow surrounded by smatterings of pink, purple, green, and golden brown. The rest of the background is white with splatters of a variety of colors. on top outline in black ink is a large circle in the center atop a pedestal-like structure. around the outside of the circle are two rows of pointed petals…each with a spiral radiating from them. In the center of the circle is drawn a simple 5-pointed star. The circle, pedestal, petals, and star are shaded and highlighted to give them dimension.

Status

“the importance or recognition one holds in a group or society, reflecting their perceived position and value to others”

The whole time I was drawing today’s MotD, Earth, Wind, and Fire’s song “Shining Star” was earworming me…in particular the chorus and the last repeated section:

“You’re a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be
…

Shining star for you to see
What your life can truly be”

When it comes to “status” and wanting it, we have to ask ourselves the why of it? Is it something our ego needs…that the only way we can feel worthy is to rely on others to put us up on a pedestal? Or is that by having “status” we can be of service to so many more people, affecting positive changes in the world, and being strong enough and grounded enough—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—to handle the major responsibility it all entails.

If we discover that it is more of the ego, then here’s why I think I had that earworm…it’s to remind us that we are already of value…a shining star. We all have an important part to play, whether it’s a starring role or a bit part barely noticeable to the world.

Regardless…we are encouraged to play that part to the max because after all, we are a shining star, no matter who we are, shining bright to see, what we could truly be.
