Let Yourself Laugh

This week we focus on “Laughter”. Today’s MotD encourages us to laugh, to allow ourselves to have a sense of humor. Even if we going through a rough situation, being able to laugh helps balance us. It takes us out of that space for a moment, giving us the opportunity to have a new, possibly more objective point of view of the situation.

For instance, last week during a weekly silent vigil that I started doing on Fridays in our downtown park, another woman joined me. Weather-wise it was just supposed to be down pour and some wind. About ten minutes in, though, it started to rain. Thankfully because it’s Oregon and we know better, we had brought our umbrellas.

Another 15 minutes later, it turned into a raging downpour, with small bits of hail. Here we are trying to be silent and mindful, sitting alone in this big park, with our umbrellas and everything is getting drenched. At the height of it, we both just looked at each and burst out laughing…because it was just so ridiculous. We must have been quite a site to passers-by, sitting with our umbrellas, getting wet, and laughing. It was delightful.

Ten minutes before our hour-long vigil was up, the rain let up, the clouds moved aside, and the warm sun blessed us with a glowing light. All of it, reminding us that if we sit still and ride it out with laughter, the light will shine again.

How about you? Do you let yourself laugh? Do you intentionally look for experiences or excuses to laugh?

Laugh…it does a body and soul good.

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
