Develop a Sense of Humor
This week we focus on “Laughter”. Today’s MotD encourages us to develop a sense of humor and make it a part of our emotional diet. Yes, situations can be happening that seem inappropriate for laughter and yet it just may be the thing we need in that moment. Our challenge becomes not letting ourselves go too long without the healing energy of laughter.
So how does one develop a sense of humor? Well first off, we need to find out what makes us laugh. In the Julia Robert’s move “Runaway Bride”, her character made eggs every way possible and then proceeded to taste each one to find out which way was her favorite. We can do the same with humor. What types of humor makes us laugh? This Huffington Post article liste nine types of humor: read about them here. Which one(s) do we favor?
Depending on the context and my mood, I’m a fan of all of them. Lately, I’ve been enjoying comedic horror movies…all the scares that make you laugh. Probably my all-time favorite comedic movie, though, is “Young Frankenstein” with an all-star cast including Madeline Kahn, Terri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, and Gene Wilder. Saw it five times in the theater when it first came out in 1974.
Anyway, once we determine our favorite comedic genre(s), we’re then encouraged to experience regular doses of it. Chances are it’s exactly what we and possibly those around us need.
How about you? Would you benefit from developing your sense of humor? What makes you laugh?
BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day
Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.
Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.
Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
