Take it as it Comes

This week we focus on the concept of “One Day at a Time”. Today’s MotD encourages us to take each day, each circumstance as it comes. It is what it is. When we come from this place of acceptance—not condoning—from this neutral place, we can better tune into our Inner Guidance to better determine what, if anything, to do next.

When we do this, we forgo our previous knee-jerk reactionary ways, to a more sane, conscious approach. When we can sit still with ourselves and truly connect to what is or to what’s flowing our way, we then come from a place of responding…the ability to respond in a healthy way and in the process, hopefully maintaining our overall well-being.

I used to almost always from a place of being triggered…reactionary and usually bigger than the circumstance warranted. Over time, I’ve been working on slowing myself down to truly assess the situation before “reacting”.

Just yesterday, while out walking, I felt myself being triggered by another walker who was walking their dog off leash. In our city we only have two dog-related laws: pick up after your dog and leash your dog at all times unless on private property or in a non-leash area. In the past I would have gone up to this person in a huff about obeying the leash law…which usually would end up in the other person verbally attacking me to mind my own business.

Yesterday, it took all sorts of energy, internal dialogue, and deep breathing to keep it to myself although internally I was seething at the injustice of it. Yes, I know, my internal reaction was a bit over the top, which means there’s something deeper going on. Even though it seems like I still have an issue with it (and I do), I definitely handled it better (for me) than I would have done in the past. At least instead of reacting directly with this person, I took the time to internally assess the situation and eventually brought myself back to a calmer state. I accept that I’m a work in progress.

How about you? Do you tend to be more reactionary or do you tend to respond? Are you able to slow your thoughts down so as to take in and truly understand each circumstance that comes your way?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
