Pick One Task
This week we focus on the concept of “One Day at a Time”. Today’s MotD encourages us to pick (and do) one task at a time. If the task seems too big, then break it down into smaller steps, and do the next step on the list. If we have time and/or feel motivated to go onto the next step, then do that. Otherwise save the next step for tomorrow.
For example, I dread having to clean out the refrigerator. It’s irritating and often times icky (I know, if I kept up with it on a regular basis, there would be no “icky” to deal with…but it is what it is). Anyway, instead of taking it all on in one day (1-2 hours), I do one section a day; it takes about 10 minutes. By the end of the week, the refrigerator is practically as good as new…it’s over 22 years old, there’s only so much I can do…that being side: she still runs great!
For bigger projects, I itemize everything that needs to be done, then break them down into short, doable daily tasks. For instance, I’m scheduled to have my art on display at our local Birkenstock store window in July. Just yesterday, I made a list of the main tasks that need to happen. Now I can take those main tasks, and break them down into daily, short tasks. One of the main tasks is to scan in all 366 Mandalas of the Day from last year. If I had nothing else to do, I could probably do it all in one day, but IRL I do have a life. What I can do, though, is scan 50 a day, which would complete that task in about one week. Then I can move onto the next task.
How about you? Can you pick one project that feels overwhelming (and have been putting off doing) and break it down into smaller tasks that could be spread out over a designated period of time? Maybe test it out on a smaller project first, to get the feel of it.
BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day
Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.
Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.
Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
