Trait or Virtue

This week we focus on the value of “Patience”. Today’s MotD has us pondering whether patience is something we’re born with or something we can attain…for a very few, it’s the former, for the rest of us it’s the latter. Thus, we’re encouraged to practice patience…it’s yet another way to our serenity.

When people see me coloring one of my mandalas, most of them tell me “Oh, I don’t have the patience for that”. To which I ask them “what is it you love to do?”. For most of their responses (gardening, quilting, working on cars, teaching, etc), I genuinely tell them, “I don’t have the patience for that”. Then they understand…if we care about it, we have the patience for it.

In another example…Just yesterday, the Universe blessed me with an opportunity to practice patience. I got caught in a traffic jam due to nothing other than it was rush hour and the bridge out of town is still under construction with only one lane open. Turning around and going another way was going to give me the same result. All I needed to do was go about 300 ft more so I could turn right out of this mess and then be home in about five minutes.

We crawled along at about 20 feet every 2 minutes or so. Every time I felt myself tensing up, mentally wanting to push these cars out of my way, I would recite my mantras: I align myself with peace and I align myself with stillness. With that, I kept my sanity and my cool, knowing that whether I’m angry or at peace, the traffic was a fact. How I wanted to respond to it was my choice. I chose peace…having to repeat my mantras multiple times.

How about you? Do you believe that patience is something you’re born with or something you can attain? Can you allow yourself to believe that it is attainable? You can start by recognizing when you’re triggered and then apply whatever method helps you return to peace.

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
