Can You Be Patient ?

This week we focus on the value of “Patience”. Today’s MotD asks an important question: Can we be patient? In pondering the question, I realized that it’s much easier for me to be patient with others than with myself…not that it’s EASY being patient with others, it’s just easier.

When it comes to others, we’re encouraged to be patient with their foibles…because their foibles to us now, are our foibles later to someone else. After all, we’re all human and with that comes our imperfections, our inconsiderations, our self-centeredness, our lack of mindfulness, and other such silliness.

So if we can learn to be patient with others, we can also learn to be patient with ourselves. For instance if we put ourselves down because we want to be able to do 10 push-ups and can only do two after just starting to do them a few days ago…hey! that’s two more than you were able to do a week ago. Be patient with yourself!

In our fast-paced society, we falsely think that if we start something new, we should be able to get it immediately. If not, then there MUST be something wrong with us, right? Wrong! While it’s true that maybe for somethings we do catch on rather quickly, for other things, it may take longer.

It’s not a reflection of our self-worth, it’s simply a matter of fact that just is. And we’re encouraged to stop comparing ourselves to what others are doing in this regard. We all move at the pace we’re able to move…BE PATIENT. Every little step forward, puts us a little bit closer to our goal.

So for me, maybe, rather than striving to drop five pounds a month and then being miserable because I fail to drop even two, I could instead strive to drop two pounds per month and allow myself to be patient (and happier) with smaller successes over a longer haul.

How about you? In what areas of your life could you be patient? Work life? Home life? Personal development? Other?

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
