From Resistance to Serenity

This week we focus on “Sweet Surrender”. Today’s MotD encourages us to be grateful for that which triggers us, that which we are struggling with, that which we’re trying to control and failing at. Why? Because these triggers help us to recognize when we’re resisting what is rather than surrendering to it. From this place of surrender we can better choose something else which will take us from resistance to serenity.

Like the story I shared the other day about calling my professor’s office to find out my grade but the person in that office wouldn’t give it because it was against school policy. No matter how hard I tried, no matter what tactic I tried to do to get her to give me the grade, she would not budge. (good for her, btw…I probably would have caved.)

She was quite calm about it, I on the other hand had become more and more enraged. When I eventually surrendered to the fact that I was not going to get my grade that day, I got off the phone, had a good cry, and realized that my reaction to her was way overboard and unwarranted. That’s when I went back into therapy. The following week I received my grade in the mail. I passed.

While it’s no fun to go through extremes like that, they do get our attention if we are willing to be mindful of them. They remind us to stop resisting and strive for serenity instead. So let’s be grateful when they show up.

How about you ? What areas in your life are you resisting what is ? Where are you suffering or struggling because things aren’t going the way you’d like ? Are you willing to surrender to what is in order to find another (better) way ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
