Being Present Breeds Gratitude

This week we focus on “Presence”. Today’s MotD reminds us that when we’re present in the moment, it gives us the opportunity to be grateful for what’s right in front of us. If we’re mentally ahead of ourselves, we tend to miss out on things that would feed our soul with gratitude. We can start by putting down our camera phones once in a while so we can be present with what is rather than trying to record it.

For me, much of what I do I do in front of my bedroom office window. Most of my attention is focused on what I’m doing on my ipad…like writing this blog post. When I allow myself to be present (remember “stop, look, listen” from yesterday?), I take the time to look out my window (like I just did) and enjoy the variety of trees (sizes, colors, types) within my view that today are swaying in the breeze on this comfortably warm summer day. It then reminds me of how grateful I am to live in the home and neighborhood I live in and have lived in for 22 years.

Being in the state of gratitude creates all sorts of benefits (physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritual)…which is a topic for another day. In the meantime you can check out this article from Psychology Today: 7 scientifically proven benefits of gratitude

How about you ? Are you seeking to be in the state of gratitude ? Ever notice that it takes being present to do so ? Can you take moments out of your day to be present and shift into gratitude ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
