Un-Jade Ourselves
This week we focus on “An Open Heart”. Today’s MotD encourages us to bring ourselves back to life, to find that spark within us long since buried under a pile of boredom, exhaustion, and cynicism. (yikes, that’s heavy). Where do we find that spark? In our hearts. By getting out of our heads and focusing our attention on our heart’s desire. And brace yourself, we may have to go all the way to our childhood to find that pilot light.
Sure over time we’ve become disillusioned by people and society. For me it probably started with learning the truth about Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny. From there it became: “what ELSE is not true?”
And these days, we’re being bombarded by all manner of illusions, delusions, and betrayals. Our challenge becomes rejecting any attempts to succumb to any of them. And that’s why it’s all the more reason to dig deep to find that spark within us that will rewrite our perspective and open our hearts to our truth.
We’re encouraged to remember what brings us joy and focus our energies there and do it in such a way as to keep us objectively present and aware without becoming jaded (or more jaded).
BTW…I had to look up the origin of “jaded”. I assumed (incorrectly) it had something to do with the gemstone Jade. I fabricated a plausible story about how someone must of stolen an important jade stone from some higher echelon person and when the townspeople learned of this thievery, they called that particular crime: being jaded.
Turns out, that’s not it. Too bad because I thought it was a viable story. Here’s what I found on EtymologyWorld.com
“Jaded” is an adjective used to describe someone or something that is exhausted, bored, or disillusioned. It implies a loss of interest, enthusiasm, or vigor. The term can be applied to both physical and emotional states.
The origin of the word “jaded” can be traced back to the use of the term “jaded” to describe a horse that is exhausted or overworked. A “jaded” horse is one that has lost its energy and enthusiasm and is no longer able to perform its duties effectively. Over time, the term “jaded” came to be used more generally to describe any person or thing that is exhausted or disillusioned.
There’s an old adage that says when we have a set back or failure, that we should get back up on the horse. What we REALLY need to do is find a new “horse”, and let that old horse joyfully retire out to pasture.
How about you ? Are you feeling jaded ? Can you think back to a time before you were jaded ? Can you capture some of your younger-self energy to help you “un-jade” yourself ?
BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day
Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.
Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.
Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
