25-158 Protection

Mandala of the Day 25-158 Protection — after. painted front side of Puzzle Piece No. 64 with colors of blues and a bit of orange

Protection

This week we focus on “An Open Heart”. Today’s MotD tells us that even though we may need to back off once in a while to protect ourselves from hurt, disappointment, or manipulation, we are encouraged to be willing to open our hearts…just a little bit more each time. We’re reminded that we can handle whatever comes our way.

Where I tend to close down is when I’m around someone who appears to be emotionally needy or who wants more of me than I’m able or willing to give. When I do close down, I can feel it. I back off or back away, emotionally and often times physically.

Just recently, I attended a public event where a woman I know, who I’ve labeled “needy”, came up to me to start a conversation. I felt myself close off and yet she seemed unaware. As she continued to talk to me, a soft voice within me said “listen to her”. So I lowered the “wall” and let myself to be fully present with her. That shift allowed me to connect with her and carry on a genuine conversation. I’m so glad I listened to that voice.

Essentially we’re being reminded that it’s okay to protect ourselves (our hearts), although it may not be necessary to go to the extreme of full “body” armor. We can find something softer that’s easier to put on and take off…like maybe a curtain, or in some cases a hazmat suit.

How about you ? Do you find yourself more in protection mode than open ? When you do go into protection mode, do you go all out with emotional armor or something softer ? Are you open to listening to that soft inner voice for guidance on how much protection you may need ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
