Be Confident
Our focus this week — Aug 6-12: “Wait and See”
Today’s MotD: Be Confident. This is about letting go of the sense of urgency and/or fear about whatever we’re doing or dealing with (unless of course we’re dealing with something harmful, dangerous, or life threatening…then by all means do what needs to be done). In the context of today’s MotD, however, we’re talking about the stuff holding us back…usually it’s internal stuff like limiting beliefs.
As I was painting today, I noticed a sense of urgency in my body…it happens often when I’m doing any type of art or creative activity. It seems counterintuitive because this should be a calming, relaxing activity. I always feel like I have to hurry up so I can be done with it and find out whether it turns out okay or not.
Intellectually I know that no matter how it turns out, it’s not a disaster…yet some part of me doesn’t want to fail or disappoint. Usually it turns out good or great, which in one regard gives me more confidence to do more paintings. And yet, when I get to the next thing, the urgency is still there even though I feel more confidence.
The other perspective on the “hurry up” syndrome, I realize, is related to my childhood. Whenever I was doing artsy-craftsy projects I always felt like I had to hurry up before one of the ‘rents came into the room to either 1) stop me to make me do another chore, 2) be judged by what I was doing, or 3) be judged by how I was doing it. All of which is telling me (internally) that I am not safe in some way. To reframe this anxiety, I would probably repeatedly tell myself that “I am safe.”
Yet another inner thing for me to process. Luckily I meet with my life coach today and for our session topic we’ll be looking at limiting beliefs. How fortuitous !
How about you ? What projects, situations, and/or people do you often feel a sense of urgency or fear about ? If you had to guess, what do you think is the limiting belief behind it ? How would you reframe it ?
BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day
Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.
Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.
Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
