What Frightens You ?
Our focus this week — Aug 13-19: “Be Not Afraid”
Today’s MotD: What Frightens You ? We’re encouraged to allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to reveal to ourselves and/or others what frightens us. There’s power in shining a light on fear. Instead of being something that lurks in the shadows of our psyche, it now becomes front and center…naked, if you will. And when we name it, well that also lessens some of its sting/stink.
A while back I did a guided meditation that led me to a particular fear I was ready to face. Before the meditation, I assumed I’d “see” some big, scary monster ready to pounce if I dared come near it. While in the meditation, though, what I actually saw (in my mind’s eye) was an adorable, yet frightened, deep purple-colored baby dragon shivering and cowering in the corner of a dark, dank basement. Instead of it being this big, fire-breathing dragon, it was a sweet gentle creature just needing some love, light, and attention.
It broke my heart to see it this way. It changed my perspective on that fear in an instant. Instead of running away from it, I reached out to hold and comfort it, which changed my approach and mindset about that fear. (I wish I could remember which one it was, but that’s what happens to me when I process through something, once I heal it, it’s gone…I rarely remember it.)
With this week’s theme, I’ve noticed more of my fears coming to light…which means I’m ready to hear what they have to say. A helpful practice may be for us (me) to make a list of these fears as they arise. Then when we’re (I’m) ready to look at them, we (I) can give each one a name, and then ask each one what it wants from us (me). Journal, move, color, meditate, or do some other activity (creative, physical, etc) that will allow their answers to come through.
How about you ? Are you ready to reveal to yourself (or someone else) what frightens you ? What do you think they look like (size, color, shape, etc) ? If it would easier, would you be able to start with some of your less frightening ones first ?
BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day
Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.
Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.
Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
