Connect With the Feels

Our focus this week — Aug 20-26: “Colors”

Today’s MotD: Connect with the Feels. We are encouraged to make the effort to connect with our feelings, especially the ones we tend to ignore, stuff, or deny. Why ? There’s gold “in them thar’ hills”. These feelings contain insights into what’s really going on with us. They can also help us to heal whatever it was that induced these feelings in the first place.

Most certainly many of our trigger reactions come from earlier events in our lives. In some way we didn’t feel safe so we created automated reactions based on the initial feelings we “learned” were “bad”. For instance being told to “stop crying or I’ll give you a reason to cry” or being slapped in the face because we had the nerve to get angry or being laughed at (ridiculed, made to feel stupid) because of something we said or did.

By connecting with these wounded parts of ourselves, we give ourselves the gift of healing and recovery. They are not the enemy, they are the Light at the end of the tunnel.

As I stated yesterday, dealing with emotions, especially difficult ones, is something I struggle with especially ones that involve crying. Of late, I’ve been feeling the need to cry…but it always seems to pick the most inappropriate times to do so: at the grocery store, driving my car, or when I’m around a bunch of people. I tell myself I’ll do it later and yet later doesn’t seem to come, which is probably why it keeps popping up like it does.

I know, intellectually, that crying is probably one of the best ways to release toxins and emotional baggage and yet I dread it. Since this week is all about embracing all of our emotions, it probably behooves me to connect with this part of me that feels this need to cry.

How about you ? How are you with connecting with your feelings ? Do you tend to resist (ignore, deny) the ones that don’t feel good ? What’s one emotion you’ve been avoiding that you’d be willing to at least take a glance at this week ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
