Compatibility

Our focus this week — Sep 10-16: “Harmony”

Today’s MotD: Compatibility. We’re encouraged to be more open and tolerant when it comes to being around other people as well as with our situations and circumstances. This is where the neutralizing phrase “it is what it is” can be helpful.

When I was much younger, I tended to be very black and white about people and situations. They were either good or bad…no in between. If people were smokers ? Oh, I can’t be around them. If I lost a job ? Oh no…that’s bad. If I got a promotion ? Oh yeah…that’s good.

And yet in all three of those examples I missed out on the nuances of them, what was beneath the surface…essentially the grey area. For instance I would have missed out on hanging out with my brother. I would have held it against him that he smoked. Instead we came to an understanding that he didn’t smoke when I was around making it delightful for both of us to spend some quality time together. Losing the job turned out to be great because it lead to an even better job. And getting a promotion meant I had more responsibility and ended up doing tasks that kept me from doing what I really loved to do.

So being “compatible” either with a person or situation just means that we get clearer on what’s important to us and being open to meeting people and situations halfway…for the greater good of all.

How about you ? Do you tend to be cut and dry when it comes to people…is it a “your way or the highway” kind of thing ? Do you tend to categorize situations as either good or bad without any middle ground ? Are you able to just be with other people or situations without conflict ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
