Willing to Pay the Price ?

Our focus this week — Oct 22-28: “Paying Dues”

Today’s MotD: Willing to Pay the Price ? We are encouraged to ask ourselves: are we willing to pay the price to go after what we want ? This requires us to examine the “why” of what we want, our motivation to wanting what we want. Is it coming from a solid, true desire or is it more from our fickle ego.

For instance, when I hear a young girl/woman say that she wants to be the first woman president of the United States, it makes me wonder: does she really want to be the President or is she REALLY wanting to win the “prize” of being the first woman elected president. Based on their intent, will determine the quality and wholeheartedness of the price they are willing to pay to achieve it.

Same with us, whatever it is we’re wanting for ourselves, why do we want it ? Once we’ve established that this desire comes from a sincere place, that’s when we ask ourselves: are we willing to pay the price to go after what we want.

For me, I found that when I was willing to pay the price, I achieved what I wanted. I wanted to run the LA Marathon, so I trained for nine months with my neighbor, who also wanted to run it. My why ? I had been running 5 and 10ks for a while and I wanted to see if I could push myself to run an even greater distance. I found that I could and after it was over, I stopped running for good. Been there. Done that. And somewhere in storage, I have the t-shirt.

Another example, I wanted to get my computer science degree for two reasons: 1) software engineers make a lot more money than secretaries and data entry clerks (which I was at the time); 2) I found out that I have an aptitude for programming computers and I loved doing it. I was working a full-time job at the time. So I had to ask myself, was I will to pay the price of working 40 hours a week and going to classes at night ? Yes! Yes, I was and I did. Three years later with degree in hand I was hired at Hughes Aircraft as a software engineer at a salary that far exceeded my secretarial’s salary.

Right now, I’m in the process of releasing excess weight from my body. What’s my why? 1) I want to be feel better in my body; 2) I want to be able to wear better fitting clothes; 3) my eating had been getting out of control, which meant my weight just kept climbing, week by week…I had to do something and it was starting to affect my health. Am I willing to pay the price to make it happen ? Yes! I had to reach out for some help and signed up with a hypnosis program that focuses on shifting my mindset about food, weight, and exercise. It’s probably going to take about 8-9 months (like birthing a new me), and I’m okay with that. So far this month, I’m down 5 pounds…because I’m willing to pay the price.

How about you ? What’s something you want for yourself ? Are you wishing and hoping it’ll happen someday ? Or do you do enough to get by, hoping that’s enough ? Or, are you willing to put in the work/time towards achieving exactly what you want ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
