What is This Thing Called Love

Our focus this week — Dec 24-31: “The Puzzle of Love”

Today’s MotD: What is This Thing Called Love. Probably one of the most confusing words in the English language is the word “love”. It’s confusing because we associate it with some many different levels of feelings. In some other languages, they differentiate these types of feelings with different words. We, on the other hand, only have the one.

We have varying types of love for people: our spouses, our children, our parents, our families, our friends, and so on. Then there’s the love we have for animals: pets, work animals, wild animals, etc. And then we have the love of things, experiences, and adventures: food, clothes, video games, shopping, traveling, writing, creating, and so on. No wonder it’s so confusing.

Probably the most necessary love, and yet the most challenging to experience, is self-love. Depending on our life experiences, believing we are lovable can be our greatest hurdle to overcome. Until we do, we will continue to create any number of self-sabotaging behaviors, some subtle, some blatantly obvious. We’ll explore this some more throughout this week.

So…as we prepare to begin a new year, we’re encouraged to open the door to our hearts (at least a smidge) and allow ourselves to step towards the belief that we are lovable, that we are worthy of receiving love, and that we are worthy of sharing that love.

How about you ? What’s your take on “love” ? Do you believe you are lovable ? Are you open to giving and receiving love ?

BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day

Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.

Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.

Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
