Lesson 036: ”My holiness envelops everything I see.”
AI Reframe: My inner clarity influences how I perceive everything.
Suggested Practice:
Four, three-to-five minute practice periods are required today. Start by closing your eyes, slowly repeating today’s idea several times. Then open your eyes and slowly look about you, apply the idea specifically to whatever you casually see. As in:
My holiness [Light] envelops that rug.
My holiness [Light] envelops that wall.
My holiness [Light] envelops these fingers.
Several times throughout a practice session, close your eyes and repeat the idea to yourself. Then open your eyes and continue as before.
Throughout the day, do shorter practices: close your eyes, repeat the idea, open your eyes, look about you, repeat the idea, then close your eyes and repeat the idea one more time.

Message
Honestly, I’m uncomfortable with the wording of today’s idea. Having been raised in a strict religious community, “holiness” was assigned to God, saints, and major figureheads within the church, not to everyday people like me. So to say something like “my holiness” feels a bit farfetched—even blasphemous.
In an effort to connect with the message rather than the “delivery” of said message, I modified yesterday’s lesson to: “I am of the Light.” Using that language, I converted today’s idea to: “I am of the Light. My Light envelops everything I see.”
Now, on to the message. While yesterday we focused on ourselves as the holy [of the Light] perceivers, today we extend that focus to what we perceive from this same perspective of holiness (Lightness). If, as The Course states, we are holy, then everything we perceive must reflect that holiness—because perception always mirrors the mind that is seeing.
Okay, that seems logical.
Then, seemingly out of the blue, the lesson drops this idea:
“‘Sinless’ means without sin. You cannot be without sin a little. You are either sinless or not. If your mind is part of God’s you must be sinless, or a part of His Mind would be sinful. Your sight is related to His holiness, not to your ego, and therefore not to your body.”
Rather than trying to reinterpret or redefine “sin” today, it may be enough to simply notice our reaction to the word itself. It will likely become clearer as we continue practicing the lessons.
Now, I realize there’s some psychological math going on here that might help with understanding today’s lesson, as in:
our mind is part of God’s = we are holy
we are holy = what we perceive/see is holy
our mind is part of God’s = we are sinless
This is definitely one of those lessons where we might need to sit with it for a bit, or maybe put it on the back burner to allow it to simmer and possibly gel. We may even feel that this is too much for us to grasp or accept—and that’s okay.
Just for today, we practice. Not to convince ourselves, but to clear the static. Holiness isn’t something we earn—it’s what remains when the gunk falls away. And from there, everything we see begins to look a little more like Light.
“Rather than confine and reduce all I behold, I merge with each situation, every person and rest in pure, unencumbered presence.”
