Lesson 044: ”God is the light with which I see.”
AI Reframe: Insight comes from a deeper awareness within me.
Suggested Practice:
Three three-to-five practice periods today. With eyes open, state the idea. Now, slowly close your eyes and repeat the idea a few more times. Then, with an intention to connect with, be present with the Light, allow yourself to go deep within, letting thoughts slip by, being still within. If/when you lose focus or resistance arises, repeat the idea and continue.
If it helps with the practice, feel free to use whatever “God” term your prefer.
The point of the practice is to train the mind to go within to re-connect with our/the Light—the operative word being: practice.

Message
Today’s lesson is eleven paragraphs long and, in my opinion, rather complexly written. Yet its message feels simple:
We have a choice.
We can see life through the ego-mind’s lens — inconsistent, fear-based, erratic, limited.
Or…
We can see life through Knowledge’s lens — God*, Light, Love, Truth, Divine Wisdom — which offers clarity, peace, and joy.
Which sounds more appealing?
During practice this morning, a vision came to me that helped anchor the idea.
A young girl, bundled against the cold, walking through a dark tunnel. In her left hand, a torch resembling Lady Liberty’s flame. Her expression: nervous curiosity. She doesn’t know what lies ahead. But she’s willing to see. The brightness of her torch reassures her.
Another aspect that struck me was the Course’s use of the word “with” — as in, “the Light with which I see.”
At first I read it as “the Light in which I see.” I assumed they meant the same thing. But when I sat with it, the difference felt significant.
“With” felt collaborative. Active. As though I am participating in the seeing. I choose the direction; God* provides the Light.
“In” felt flatter. More passive. As if the seeing were happening without my involvement.
That small preposition shifted the entire feel of the lesson for me.
Like I said…Complex yet Simple.
*Feel free to substitute “God” with whatever word resonates for you.
“Lesson 44…basically tells me it’s far more radical to live in light than to live in despair’.”
