Lesson 046: ”God is the Love in which I forgive.”
AI Reframe: Forgiveness emerges naturally when my heart is open.
Suggested Practice:
Three five-minute practice periods and as many shorter ones as possible. For the longer ones, start by repeating today’s idea [or your variation of it]. Close your eyes. Spend about one to two minutes searching your mind for people you have not forgiven. Mention each one by name and say:
God* is the Love in which I forgive you, [name]
After you’ve applied the idea to all those who came to mind, now tell yourself:
God* is the Love in which I forgive myself
Then spend the remainder of the practice period adding related ideas such as:
Divine Energy is the Love with which I love myself
Divine Light is the Love in which I am blessed
Fear condemns me, Love forgives me
Source is the Love with which I am forgiven
End the practice with repeating the original idea or your variation.
For shorter periods, apply the original idea or a variation that you prefer throughout the day, especially when you experience a negative reaction to anyone, present or not. In that case tell them silently:
God* is the Love in which I forgive you
*NOTE: If it helps with the practice, feel free to use whatever “God” term that resonates best for you.

Message
Fear condemns. Love forgives.
This idea resonated deeply as I read today’s lesson. And the opening line struck just as powerfully:
“God does not forgive because He has never condemned.”
It is we who condemn, based on the ego’s perception. In a world built on misperception, forgiveness becomes necessary — not for God, but for us.
What others have done. What we have done. These can feel heavy. Forgiveness does not excuse what happened. It releases its grip on our peace.
From the lesson:
“Those who forgive are thus releasing themselves from illusions, while those who withhold forgiveness are binding themselves to them. As you condemn only yourself, so do you forgive only yourself.
… Forgiveness thus undoes what fear has produced, returning the mind to the awareness of God. For this reason, forgiveness can truly be called salvation. It is the means by which illusions disappear.”
During my morning practice, this vision came to mind.
A vast cave. High ceilings. Sand beneath bare feet. Scattered stones. Quiet. In the center, a single lit post — steady, unwavering.
A woman holds a torch in her right hand, lit from the central fire. Slowly. One by one, she lights the wooden posts forming a wide circle around her.
With each person I brought to mind, I was not turning their light back on for them, but for myself. I was choosing to see from Love instead of fear.
If forgiveness feels difficult right now, that’s okay. This idea is layered. The Course will return to it again and again.
For now, even a small willingness is enough..
“I close my eyes, think of all the douchebags I have yet to forgive, and repeat this phrase: ‘Source is the Love in which I forgive’.”
