Lesson 047: ”God is the strength in which I trust.”
AI Reframe: Trust comes from an inner steadiness I can rely on.
Suggested Practice:
Four five-minute practice periods are necessary today, and longer and more frequent ones are urged.
Close your eyes and begin by repeating today’s idea. Spend 1-2 minutes searching for situations you have invested with fear. Dismiss each one by telling yourself:
God* is the strength in which I trust.
During the remaining time, try to reach down into our mind to a place of real safety. You will recognize that you have reached it if you feel a sense of deep peace, however briefly.
Throughout the day, repeat the idea often.
*NOTE: If it helps with the practice, feel free to use whatever “God” term that resonates best for you.

Message
My ego-mind got triggered and indignant by the first two paragraphs of today’s lesson. How dare I be told that I’m weak, that I can’t be counted upon, or that I can’t come up with solutions to my problems on my own. Here, let me show you exactly what it said:
“If you are trusting in your own strength, you have every reason to be apprehensive, anxious and fearful. ²What can you predict or control? ³What is there in you that can be counted on? ⁴What would give you the ability to be aware of all the facets of any problem, and to resolve them in such a way that only good can come of it? ⁵What is there in you that gives you the recognition of the right solution, and the guarantee that it will be accomplished?” (ACIM, W-47.1:1-5)
“Of yourself you can do none of these things. ²To believe that you can is to put your trust where trust is unwarranted, and to justify fear, anxiety, depression, anger and sorrow. ³Who can put his faith in weakness and feel safe? ⁴Yet who can put his faith in strength and feel weak?” (ACIM, W-47.2:1-4)
Once I caught how defensive I was, I stopped. Took a breath. And reread it more objectively this time. Now I could see that The Course was simply stating facts as it knows them—without animosity, without judgment, without sugar-coating.
Now I see the truth in it. Much of the time when I rely solely on my ego-mind, I tend to roam aimlessly through my day. Yet, when I stop to connect with my higher Self, I know exactly what to do next. And if Fred and Darlene (fear and doubt) try to get in my way, I let them know that everything’s okay and proceed on my merry way.
When doing the practice this morning, this visual came to mind:
I see a mountain peak, similar to a snow-capped Mount Fuji. At the base and all around the mountain, a maze of trees forms a dense forest. Somewhere within that forest, a single person walks—uncertain, surrounded, unsure which way to go. High above, at the summit, another person stands as a lookout. Arm extended and pointing firmly to the right, their voice carries down through the mountain air: “Go right!” And somewhere below, the confused traveler hears it and now knows which way to go.
Inner Wisdom—Divine Guidance—is the strength in which I trust. Not my fear. Not my strategizing. Not my ego’s frantic calculations. It’s that strength, which is not outside of me. It’s the higher vantage point within me—the part that has a commanding and knowledgeable view of everything.
“Today…I’m asked to close my eyes, look at my fears and dismiss each one.”
