Lesson 049: ”God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.”
AI Reframe: Guidance is always available when I’m willing to listen inwardly.
Suggested Practice:
At least four five-minute practice periods today, and more if possible.
Close your eyes. Be still. Listen in deep silence. Past all the ego-mind noise.
Per the lesson: “Sink deep into the peace that waits for you beyond the frantic, riotous thoughts and sights and sounds of this insane world. … We’re trying to reach our real home.”

Message
This visual came to mind during my lesson practice.
I’m sitting on a couch in my living room. TV remote in hand. About ten feet to my right, a radio broadcasts in a calm, steady voice. I know it’s there, but I don’t hear it because I’m distracted by the tv in front of me blaring hilarious reruns of “The Big Bang Theory”, complete with flashy ads insisting I need something.
That visual pretty much sums up for me the point of today’s practice.
The Voice of the Divine Mind—God, Universe, Source—broadcasts to us 24/7. It’s there, off to the side, in the background.
Our ego-mind distracts in an attempt to keep itself safe and comfortable. It behaves like the “Great and Powerful Oz” from “The Wizard of Oz” movie. You know, the one projected frighteningly up above the cauldrons of fire, menacingly commanding “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.”
In the case of my vision, the ego-mind is telling us “to pay no attention to that voice on the radio.”
We may have believed The Universe disconnected from us — that we “can’t hear It,” and must somehow earn our way back into Its good graces.
The truth is simpler.
We’re the ones who stopped listening. We’re the ones who believe we separated ourselves from The Voice. It’s there. Patiently, gracefully, and lovingly waiting for us to tune in. In other words, the ball is in our court.
Now that we know this, we can re-connect by re-membering that we were never separate. Today’s practice introduces just how to do so. It also describes for us how we can tell the difference between these two different voices.
“The part that is listening to the Voice for [Truth] is calm, always at rest and wholly certain. ²It is really the only part there is.³The other part is a wild illusion, frantic and distraught, but without reality of any kind. ⁴Try today not to listen to it. ⁵Try to identify with the part of your mind where stillness and peace reign forever. ⁶Try to hear [Truth’s] Voice call to you lovingly, reminding you that your [It] has not forgotten [you/us].” (ACIM, W-49.2:1-6)
So…turn off the TV. Now, tune in.
“Dr. Seuss’s Thing 1 and Thing 2 wear red jumpsuits and blue afros. My Thing 1 and Thing 2 are voices that compete in my head with opposing narratives.”
