Today’s five review ideas call us back to who we truly are, as opposed to who the ego-mind insists we are—and the effects of believing it.
My attack thoughts are attacking my invulnerability.
Above all else I want to see.
Above all else I want to see differently.
God is in everything I see.
God is in everything I see because God is in my mind.
Expressions of peace, love, and joy—this is who we truly are. Across more than 1,200 pages of the Text, Workbook, and Manual for Teachers, The Course approaches this from every possible angle to help us remember that simple truth.
I keep coming back to this summary statement under “Above all else I want to see”:
“³The world I see attests to the fearful nature of the self-image I have made. ⁴If I would remember who I am, it is essential that I let this image of myself go. ⁵As it is replaced by truth, vision will surely be given me. ⁶And with this vision, I will look upon the world and on myself with charity and love.” (ACIM, W-56.2:3-6)
Chipping away at the “fearful nature of the self-image I have made” feels like a daunting task to me. It has been a lifelong struggle. It feels like trying to break through a thick cement wall with a kitchen knife. I’m realizing now that my ego-mind wants me to believe that wall exists in order to maintain the status quo.
Where this plays out for me the most is my desire to create a thriving mandala art business. Just as I wrote that, my fearful self threw a litany of negative thoughts my way. The first was one my father used whenever I wanted to pursue something big, brave, or born of the heart:
“Oh, you don’t want to do that.” Or this other one, usually offered in his critical voice: “Why would you want to do that?” And then he’d proceed to give all the reasons to support his statement—making me feel smaller and smaller with each reason until the life of that desire was squelched completely.
With therapy and having done The Course before, I’ve managed to convert many walls into veils. Wanting to be a successful artist has been, and is, my biggest “wall” to convert. It’s as if my ego-mind rewrote that famous line from Jaws to: “We’re gonna need a bigger wall.”
And yet, reading today’s lesson and writing this all out, reminds me that his bigger wall is yet another illusion projected onto yet another veil. If I see it for what it is—a thin, translucent veil—I can simply move it aside and step forward into my truth, my heart’s desire, with ease.
Today’s review gently, simply, and graciously reminds us:
In Truth, we are aligned with infinite, divinely-inspired power to do amazing things and to be our amazing selves—just move aside every veil thats dim our Light.
“The truth remains unchanged, and everything I want and need is right there behind my fearful self-image.”
