Lesson 065: ”My only function is the one God* gave me.”
AI Reframe: My real purpose is to return to clarity and peace.
Suggested Practice:
Today and over the next several days, set aside 10-15 minutes, preferably the same time each day, for a more sustained practice, focused on trying to understand and embrace what the idea means. Start by repeating the idea. Then close your eyes, repeating it again to yourself. Now allow whatever thoughts come up that try to interfere with the idea—without forcing them. With each “interference” thought, tell yourself:
This thought reflects a goal that is preventing me from accepting my only function.
Remember, you are wanting these thoughts to come to the surface, not trying to stop them—so that each one can be addressed. At the end of the session tell yourself.
On this clean slate let my true function be written for me.
For shorter periods throughout the day, once an hour is recommended, apply this form of the idea—sometimes with eyes open, sometimes closed:
My only function is the one God* gave me. I want not other and I have not other.
* feel free to use whatever term works best for you.

Message
Over the last few days, the Course has presented a logical progression of ideas, each building on the previous one.
We are the light of the world. (Lesson 61)
Forgiveness—remembering that we are all the light—is our function. (Lesson 62)
Fulfilling our function brings peace to every mind. (Lesson 63)
Only by fulfilling our function will we be happy. (Lesson 64)
Today’s lesson adds the foundation: we are the light because it was divinely given to us. (Lesson 65)
Taken together, these sum up what the Course calls salvation—our purpose.
From the lesson:
“The idea for today reaffirms your commitment to salvation. It also reminds you that you have no function other than that.” (ACIM, W-65.1:1-2)
When I sat with this idea earlier today, I realized how much simpler my life would be by embracing it. Making decisions becomes easier. If something aligns with my light—uplifts, brings joy—go for it. If not, pass.
Fulfilling my function “is the only way in which [I] can find peace of mind.”
The lesson puts it this way:
“Today’s idea offers you escape from all your perceived difficulties. It places the key to the door of peace, which you have closed upon yourself, in your own hands. It gives you the answer to all the searching you have done since time began.” (ACIM, W-65.3:2-4)
“Lesson 65…encourages me to be single-minded in my pursuit of joy, to make this my one and only goal.”
