Lesson 066: ”My happiness and my function are one.”

AI Reframe: Peace and purpose come from the same Source.

Suggested Practice:
Today and over the next several days, set aside 10-15 minutes, preferably the same time each day, for a more sustained practice, focused on trying to understand and embrace what the idea means. Start by reviewing these thoughts:

God* gives me only happiness.
He has given my function to me.
Therefore my function must be happiness. (ACIM, W-66.5:2-4)

Try to understand the logic of the sequence even if you struggle with the conclusion.

For shorter periods throughout the day, twice an hour is recommended, ponder and apply this form of the idea:

My happiness and function are one, because God* has given me both.

* feel free to use whatever term works best for you.

Message

From today’s practice, I’m exploring these three statements:

  1. God* gives me only happiness.
  2. He has given my function to me.
  3. Therefore my function must be happiness.

* Substitute whatever term resonates with you best in order to receive the message.

Together, these statements read almost like a math equation. The Universe gives me only one thing: happiness. It has also given me my function. Since the Universe gives only one thing, my function and happiness must be the same. Therefore my function is happiness.

When I practiced this morning, I understood the first statement intellectually. But I got hung up on the term “God.” To move forward, I needed to know how ACIM defines it.

With a little digging and a conversation with DeepSeek, here’s what I found:

God is an impersonal, formless, infinite principle of pure Love—which is why I sometimes prefer to use the term “Love” or “Light.” Being pure Love, God can only express Love in all its forms: happiness, joy, peace, love.

An earlier lesson told us that “forgiveness is our function.” Now we’re being told happiness is our function. Ah yes—happiness is the outcome of forgiveness.

Put those two ideas together and we can conclude that, ultimately, our function is happiness.

It’s okay if this lesson feels challenging to fully grasp. The Course returns to it again and again, usually from different perspectives. For now, practice with the willingness to understand.

“I simply point out the truth: My purpose is to be happy.”
