Lesson 083: ”REVIEW: My only function is the one God gave me. My happiness and my function are one.”
AI Reframe: Peaceful perspectives are the only ones that truly work.
Suggested Exercise:
From the Review:
“The longer practice periods will follow this general form: Take about fifteen minutes for each of them, and begin by thinking about the ideas for the day, and the comments that are included in the assignments. ²Devote some three or four minutes to reading them over slowly, several times if you wish, and then close your eyes and listen.”
”Repeat the first phase of the exercise period if you find your mind wandering, but try to spend the major part of the time listening quietly but attentively. ²There is a message waiting for you. ³Be confident that you will receive it.⁴Remember that it belongs to you, and that you want it.”(ACIM, W-rII.in.2:1–3:4)
“Reaffirm your determination [to fulfill your function] in the shorter practice periods as well, using the original form of the idea for general applications, and more specific forms when needed.” (ACIM, W-rII.in.6:1)
For Lesson 65:
My only function is the one God* Gave me.
²I have no function but the one God gave me. ³This recognition releases me from all conflict, because it means I cannot have conflicting goals. ⁴With one purpose only, I am always certain what to do, what to say and what to think. (ACIM, W-83.1:2-4)
For Lesson 66:
My happiness and my function are one.
”All things that come from God are one. ³They come from Oneness, and must be received as one. ⁴Fulfilling my function is my happiness because both come from the same Source. ⁵And I must learn to recognize what makes me happy, if I would find happiness. (ACIM, W-83.3:2-5)

Message
From the last two review lessons we established:
We are the light of the world.
Our function is to light up the world.
See the light in everyone.
Be the light of the world.
Today we remember that this is because we are as Love created us (Lesson 67). We are Love. We come from Love. Our function is Love. Anything else is based on the illusions our fanatic ego-minds project.
I’m often asked during readings, “What’s my purpose?” People tend to want specifics. I usually give them a sense of it, but mainly this is an inside job—for them, and for all of us—to figure out. So my response is generally, “Figure out what you love to do, then go forth helping people by doing whatever that is.”
This is essentially ACIM’s message as well. God’s will for us is happiness. When we follow this guidance—doing what lights us up—our happiness and our function become one.
As today’s lesson states:
“I must learn to recognize what makes me happy, if I would find happiness.” (ACIM, W-83.3:5)
Thus our purpose becomes: be and do what makes us happy—as Love would have us do.
“I have but one purpose and that is to be happy.”
