Lesson 091: ”Miracles are seen in light.”
AI Reframe: Clarity reveals what was always true.
Suggested Exercise:
“Three times today set aside 10 minutes for a quiet time in which you try to leave your weakness behind. This is accomplished very simply, as you instruct yourself that you are not a body…begin the longer practice periods with this statement of true cause and effect relationships:”
Miracles** are seen in light.
The body’s eyes do not perceive the light.
But I am not a body. What am I?
”If you are not a body, what are you? ²Ask this in honesty, and then devote several minutes to allowing your mistaken thoughts about your attributes to be corrected, and their opposites to take their place. ³Say, for example:”
⁴I am not weak, but strong.
⁵I am not helpless, but all powerful.
⁶I am not limited, but unlimited.
⁷I am not doubtful, but certain.
⁸I am not an illusion, but a reality.
⁹I cannot see in darkness, but in light.
”In the second phase of the exercise period, try to experience these truths about yourself. ²Concentrate particularly on the experience of strength. ³Remember that all sense of weakness is associated with the belief you are a body, a belief that is mistaken and deserves no faith.”(ACIM, W-91.8:1–9:3)
”Relax for the rest of the practice period, confident that your efforts, however meager, are fully supported by the strength of God* and all His Thoughts.” (ACIM, W-91.10:1)
Five to six times an hour remind yourself of today’s idea and when faced with a situation where we may be tempted to close our eyes.

Message
Here is the final version, incorporating the edits and feedback we discussed.
Let’s say you’re in a grumpy mood. Nothing seems to be going your way. Uncertainty abounds. There are so many things you could do, but you sit there staring at the options, feeling confused about which to choose. You’re not even sure if any of them are good ideas. You start second-guessing yourself. Maybe there are other options you haven’t considered. At the end of the day, when little to no progress was made on anything, you feel disappointed and frustrated. You think, “Maybe things will get better tomorrow.”
This is what being in the dark feels like to me. This is what I experience when I see my life through my ego-mind’s eyes. I hear internal phrases like “why bother,” “no one is interested in what I have to offer,” “no one wants to hear what I have to say,” or “well, that’s another day you wasted.” It’s like a little troll under the bridge of my mind—my ego—doing its best to keep me small, weak, and helpless.
Doing A Course in Miracles this year—and especially this lesson—reminds me that I am not small, weak, or helpless. I am the light of the world who happens to be experiencing an earthly life in this body, on this timeline. Whatever limitations I perceive from being in this body are either illusions of the ego or physical realities of the body—but they are not the light that is me.
To see and experience miracles, all I need to do is shift my focus away from that troll and toward my Divine mind. To ask it what I want or need. And if I don’t know what I want—which seems to come up a lot for me lately—I can ask for Divine help by telling it how I want to feel.
Take today, for instance. I had to drive an hour and a half each way to an appointment. I tend to be easily triggered while driving, especially by tailgating or being cut off.
Normally, as my way of asking the Divine for help, I set an intention to arrive with this statement: “I arrive safely, quickly, easily, and in plenty of time for my appointment.” For the ride home, I change it to: “I arrive home safely, quickly, and easily.” That has worked for me for years. Still, I usually arrived stressed out because I let myself—via the ego—be triggered by other drivers.
Today I made a small change: “I arrive safely, quickly, easily, and with grace, in plenty of time for my appointment,” and “I arrive home safely, quickly, and easily with grace.” For me, adding the word grace meant I wanted to arrive feeling calm, cool, and collected.
With that little change, I found that while driving, if I felt stress or a trigger coming on, I remembered my intention statement—I remembered my light and the light of those around me. Each time, it brought me back to my natural state of peace.
Per ACIM, miracles happen when we shift our focus to the Divine mind—the light—and Its help. Making that shift requires us to remember that we are the light.
* The Course defines “Him[God]” as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. God’s will for us is happiness.
** Miracles are what happen when we shift who we listen to—from the ego-mind to the Divine Mind. It’s the move from being a victim of the outer world to feeling empowered from within.
“Miracles are within easy reach once I quit pretending I’m weak, once I quit obscuring the light.”
