Artist friend and colleague, Nina Ventra, created this very powerful animal spirit mosaic sculpture, “Crow Mandala”, as part of her mandala series. I love the heavy earthiness of this piece along with bold use of colors and patterns, upon patterns. It looks like something you would find exploring Aztec or Mayan ruins.

191 – Orpheus Mandala
Continuing her travels in Morocco, my friend Michelle, visited the archeological site of Volubilis where she photographed this Roman mosaic of Orpheus and wild animals in the House of Orpheus, which dates back to 300 AD.

145 – Glass Mosaic Mandala
Texas mosaic artist, David Chidgey, created this beautiful art glass mandala entitled “Dusky Sun” from hundreds of pieces of stained glass. All of his mandalas are gorgeous. The colors and patterns are mesmerizing. I bet they are even more delightful in person with the sun shining through them.
108 – Zeugma Mandala
This amazing Roman mosaic floor can be viewed at the Gaziantep Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Turkey. The 90,000-square-foot museum features a 7,500-square-foot exhibition hall and is the world’s largest mosaic museum. From the featured image we have an idea of its size.
64 – Buttons and Things Mandala
At first glance this may seem like an odd choice for the Mandala of the Day. However upon closer inspection you’ll notice why I chose it. Jane Perkins, an artist in found things (her words), re-created Vermeer’s most beautiful painting, Girl with a Pearl Earring, into this stunning piece of art using mostly round buttons and other round found items.
